I am immensely proud to be the Principal of St. Mary’s Special School and it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our school website.

St. Mary’s Special School is a special school located in Navan, Co. Meath. We have almost 80 incredible pupils on roll, and we cover both Primary and Post Primary ages . Our main school site is based in the old Johnstown Village and the Special Care Unit is situated in the Bailis Resource Centre in Johnstown, around 1.5 kms away.

Our school motto is ‘Festina Lente’ and this permeates everything that we do. St. Mary’s Special School is a vibrant, warm and happy school where children are celebrated and cherished. As you will see in our website, our curriculum offer is well-defined, broad, balanced and enriching.

We aim to support our pupils to make the most of their unique potential and we never underestimate a child’s ability. We treasure our close working relationships with our pupils’ families; together, we focus tirelessly on supporting our pupils to develop functional communication and the skills required to live happy, enriched, and healthy lives.

We are always striving to be better and we’re constantly looking at ways to improve our provision and the lives of our wonderful pupils. We have high expectations for every pupil and our experienced staff ensure that each pupil’s individual needs are met through small classes and group teaching.
